1001: Frank Sinatra – In The Wee Small Hours (1955)

I don’t know what the musical landscape was at the time but if this record was remarkable… I’m shocked. It’s crooning about losing a lover. Lonesome and heartbroken Frank croons over sparsly orchestrated drumless concertos of sadness. I really don’t know who would put this on and listen to it unless you were miserable or coming out of a break up. Frank’s voice is like talking. I don’t hear how he is a gifted vocalist at all.

Bottom line: skip it
