994: The Crickets – The “Chirping”Crickets (1957)

If anyone ever asked me “what does a clean Stratocaster sound like on a recording?” I would play them any song from this album. It’s fairly short, clocking in at under a half hour long. Buddy Holly wrote a lot of these songs which is kind of unique is this era, so, you know, good for him for that. It is at times sappy and never has teeth. His voice has a nice vibrato and is geniuninly (how is there no spell check in this word processor!?!) sweet.

Bottom line: This is the soundtrack to the world of Pleasantville. If you hear one song, you kind of get the idea.
