991: Sabu – Palo Congo (1957)

Upbeat, weaving rhythms with shouting in Spanish, call and repeat and choral chanting. Whoever is playing the drums in this group has sore hands at the end of the night. The guitar in the very first few seconds of the entire record would make an excellent sample, as would countless other percussive moments. This is probably what I would use to define afro-cuban.

Bottom Line: Everyone should check this out at least one song.
